CONSTRUCTION PATHWAY

Explore a wide range of construction trades by joining NHC’s Construction pathway! This is your chance to learn more about the opportunities available in the sector and find your trade.

Do you want to explore careers in the construction sector and keep your options open? NHC’s Construction pathway is a great fit for you. The pathway will enable you to learn, develop, and practise the skills required to specialise in a trade. After completion of your course you will either progress onto other courses, onto an apprenticeship, or into employment in the industry.

Delivered through a mix of classroom theory sessions and workshop practical sessions, this pathway will give you the skills to find your specialism and broaden your horizons.

The units are designed to teach you the underlying principles and practical skills of the construction sector, as well as an overview of building technology and key terminology.

Specific topics covered include:

• Constructing housing joints in carpentry
• Plastering render coats
• Bricklaying a half brick wall
• Plumbing fittings
• Connecting flex in electrical installations

As you develop in this pathway, you’ll begin to understand more about the construction industry, including:

• Health and safety
• How to complete common bricklaying, plastering, electrical, and plumbing tasks
• Constructing frames
• Preparing surfaces for work

If you haven’t got them already, you’ll also study your maths and English qualifications, as they are essential in this industry.

On this pathway, you’ll also further develop your ‘work ready’ skills through relevant work experience, volunteering in the community, or working with an industry partner on a specific project.
