MOTOR VEHICLE PATHWAY

What you need to know

ABOUT THE PATHWAY

Start your journey to a career in the automotive industry by joining NHC’s Motor Vehicle pathway.

HOW AND WHAT WILL I LEARN?

If you’re looking to jump-start a career in the automotive industry, NHC’s Motor Vehicle pathway is for you. This pathway enables you to learn, develop and practise the skills required to progress to further study, an apprenticeship, or into employment at the end of your course.

Delivered through a mix of classroom theory sessions and workshop practical sessions, this course will give you the skills to secure employment in the motor vehicle industry.

As you develop in this pathway, you’ll cover the main skills and knowledge you need to enter the automotive industry.

You will study the following units:

  • Health and safety regulations
  • Engine mechanical, lubrication, and cooling systems
  • Vehicle maintenance and diagnostics

The units are designed to teach you the underlying principles and practical skills of automotive care and maintenance, as well as an overview of motor vehicle diagnostic technology and terminology.

Specific topics covered include:

  • How to use common tools, materials, and equipment
  • Fuel, ignition, air, and exhaust systems
  • Suspension and braking systems
  • Wheel and tyre construction and maintenance

Depending on your course level, you’ll also study an additional qualification in the awareness of Hybrid Vehicles, helping you future proof your career as the UK moves towards greater sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

You will also study maths and English qualifications if you haven’t got them already, as they are essential in this industry.

On this pathway you will also further develop your ‘work ready’ skills through relevant work experience, volunteering in the community, or work with an industry partner on a specific project.
