Studying at college is a bit different to studying at school, and we sometimes find that new learners can feel a bit nervous ahead of their first day. It’s totally normal to feel anxious ahead of this change, which is why we’ve put together some resources to help you feel more prepared before you join us on campus. Find new friends – join a club!
We have a range of sports and clubs that you can join. If there isn’t a club you’re interested in, you can start one!
When you start your course at NHC, you can join one of our clubs (or start a new one) by emailing the Student Governor.
As well as being fun, these experiences will also give your CV an edge when you start applying for university, apprenticeships and job opportunities.

Student Perks
All our campuses have cafes and vending machines which you’re able to use. These take both card and cash and are handy options for lunch or snacks throughout the day.
Our Hitchin Campus also has NHC’s student-run restaurant, Hart Kitchens, which is open to students from Tuesday to Thursday during term time. You can eat in or takeaway, with prices starting from £1.50. Our Hospitality & Catering students also run the Hart Deli and Hart Coffee stands in Hitchin for quicker bites to eat.
Our students also have access to discounts at a range of food vendors in Stevenage Town Centre. Simply show your NHC ID badge upon purchase. Check out our discounted food vendors here.

As a student at NHC, you can apply for a Totum card for just £12 to get access to lots of exclusive UK discounts in shops, cinemas and restaurants online and on the high street. To find out more check out visit www.totum.com
eduroam is an international initiative that allows members of educational establishments to gain wireless Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating members’ sites.
Once your device has been configured to work on campus you will be able to connect to the service automatically at participating educational establishments when your device discovers the eduroam network is available.
Visitors to the college
- Check the list of participating establishments to see whether your college/university is a member of the scheme.
- Follow the eduroam set-up instructions provided by your home institution, and ensure that your own home site setting is correctly set up and working before you arrive at North Hertfordshire College.
- Your device should then connect automatically via eduroam when you visit.
Staff and students
You need to use your full North Hertfordshire College email address as your username and your North Hertfordshire College network password.
Please Note: If you just use your username, it won’t work.
Student Voice 🗣
The Student Governor is elected by the student body each year. Their job is to listen to student views and work to improve NHC for all their fellow students.
The Student Council represents students at NHC. If you like to have your say and want to contribute to changes within the college, then the council is for you.
It exists to enhance the learning experiences of students and to drive improvements in day-to-day college life. This includes organising social and sporting activities, events and campaigns for student welfare and education.
