NHC Chefs Support Pub in the Park 2023

Published on September 23, 2023

It’s the start of the new academic year for North Hertfordshire College’s catering learners, which can mean only one thing – it’s time for Pub in the Park! Fifteen of our enthusiastic student chefs enjoyed getting stuck in with the popular food festival as part of their induction activities for their new courses.

They worked in the sweltering mid-September heatwave over the Friday night, Saturday daytime, and Saturday night sessions alongside Michelin star chefs, gaining valuable insights into catering on a large scale. It was no mean feat cooking for over 12,000 festival goers on one of the hottest days of the year, but all of our young chefs did the College incredibly proud with their determination to keep going and meet the high standards of their professional colleagues.

As a reward for their hard work, our learners were invited to watch Craig David’s finale show on the Saturday night. Chef Tom Kerridge even dropped by for a chat and to share some motivating words!

Anthony Gascoigne, who teaches on NHC’s Catering courses, told us: “The students showed great resilience and the feedback from the chefs was excellent. All in all, a great experience which capped an excellent induction week.”

Our student chefs certainly had a great time. Check out some of their feedback in the carousel below:
