Last month, our Bricklaying learners brought their college-studies to life on a trip to London!
The first stop on their adventures was St Pancras Station, its Italian-Gothic building is defined by red brick and gothic spires. The group enjoyed spotting some seriously impressive brickwork laid all the way back in 1868!
Our bricklayers were able to decipher the difference between imperial and metric brickwork used on the façade of the building, helping them understand how to apply these techniques when working on older properties or retrofit projects in future.
After a busy morning, the group then jumped on an open-top-bus tour of London’s West End to spot some more impressive brickwork and architecture!
our Bricklayers managed to explore a lot of unique brickwork, and further their understanding of how structures are built differently to others.
Liva, Curriculum Administrator for Construction at NHC who joined our Bricklayers on their travels said: “It was my first trip with students, and I loved it! They were well behaved and showed respect around other people. They sang songs on the bus which made other tourists smile, too!”
As well as gaining new insight into bricklaying techniques and architecture, our students also enjoyed the opportunity to travel into the capital. A few of our learners had never visited London, so Bricklaying Tutor, Ian, made sure to take them on the tube to explain how it works.
Our Bricklayers enjoyed their trip so much that Ian has arranged another outing to Cambridge after they finish their final exams in spring!
