North Hertfordshire College Catering alum, Nicole Watt, has made it through to the finals of the National Young Chef of the Year awards!
This isn’t Nicole’s first experience competing in the final stage of a culinary competition, having regularly participated in competitions during her studies at North Hertfordshire College. As a student, Nicole was a finalist at Zest Quest Asia and in the Young Seafood Chef of the Year competition, as well as making it through to the finals of Nestle Toque D’Or finals two years in a row. To top it all off, Nicole was even amongst the first group of students to compete at the Salon Culinaire for the Uncle Ben’s Foodservice challenge at the Birmingham HRC.
Now, having finished her course, Nicole is working as a chef in the Royal Navy at Admiralty House. She continues to succeed in this role, having been part of the winning team in the 2022 Inter-Services Championship at the Exercise Joint Caterer competition for military chefs.
Anthony Gascoigne, Catering tutor at North Hertfordshire College, taught Nicole whilst she was studying at NHC. He said of her recent achievements: “Nicole’s success really endorses how competitions raise aspirations and develop confidence. Nicole was quite a shy student when she first joined us, so it’s great to see how far she’s grown and how she continues to achieve.”
Congratulations to Nicole for making it to the finals, and best of luck with the competition!
