North Hertfordshire College’s Level 2 and 3 Electrical Installation students recently enjoyed a masterclass session from Young Enterprise and the National Grid about how the service works and career opportunities within the field.
The session saw volunteers from the OHL National Grid speaking to our learners about the Grid process and the range of roles involved in the maintenance of the system. Learners also took part in a range of hands-on activities to bring concepts to life, including building their own mini pylons, to help them better understand how the structures come together.
As a result of this masterclass session, our learners now have the chance to register their interest in an apprenticeship with the National Grid to take their learning to the next stage and launch a valuable career – an amazing opportunity!
We’re pleased to report our learners thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the possibilities that the session has opened for their futures. Ellie M, Level 3 Electrical student, told us: “I had a really great day with the Grid team and I found the presentation and activities very interesting. Lots of information was given about the jobs available and I am very intrigued about what’s on offer.”
It’s also helped our learners to aim high when it comes to their next steps after college. Max U, who is currently studying his Level 2 in Electrical Installations with NHC, commented: “Today has been really useful and a great opportunity for a career in overhead lines. It has expanded my knowledge and I am hoping to move to the next stage of the apprenticeship application process.”
