Our level 5 Higher National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science learners were invited to Third Space in Canary Wharf, Europe’s largest luxury health club, for practical sessions and in-house lectures focusing on the higher-end approach to personal training (PT).
Talks included financial modelling for a high-end personal trainer, exploring the specific needs of executive clients and the importance of an individualised long-term training programme.
Learners were also taken on a tour of the state-of-the-art luxury facilities, looking at specialist training equipment in London’s largest multi-purpose training space – what an experience!
The learners had recently completed a module in Strength and Conditioning coaching and our tutor team planned this trip to allow them to appreciate the more nuanced philosophy behind training elite athletes, executives, and captains of the industry. Our learners can now understand the difference between a ‘catch-all’ approach and the highly-specific, tailored expectation of top end personal training.
Connor Devlin, a Higher National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science learner commented:
“I really had a great time at The Third Space. We did Biomechanics at Level 4, and seeing how a deep understanding of this can attract many potential clients was eye-opening.”
Mr Josh Silverman, Head of Education for trainers at Third Space is an ex -North Hertfordshire College tutor, too, and this trip wouldn’t have been possible without this connection – thank you Josh!
Dr. George Payne, course team leader commented:
“The Third Space is simply upper echelon. For the HNDs to have an opportunity to look into the luxury fitness market this way is both rare and inspirational. The students got themselves involved in all aspects of the visit, from testing lever points and equating that to muscular force, to collaborating with other fitness professionals, some of whom have been 20+ years in the industry. They then had the chance to have a guided tour of the building to witness the spa, medical area for physiotherapy, and elite cardio and stretching areas (which included £10,000 foam rollers!). As a budding personal trainer, exercise specialist, physiotherapist, or strength and conditioning coach, The Third Space is where you can see your business grow exponentially. Thank you to Josh and the team for an all-access tour of the best gym in the U.K.”
Both learners and the tutor team had a fantastic time visiting Third Space, a huge thank you to Dr. George Payne for organising this visit.
