Enter: North Hertfordshire College’s brand-new film, TV and VFX Studio.
With some help from the Hertfordshire Local Skills Improvement Fund, we’ve invested in a state-of-the-art film, TV and VFX Studio, based at our Hitchin Campus.
The space is designed to equip learners with the specific skills needed by local film and television industry employers, like the nearby Elstree Studios or the new Sunset Studios in Waltham Cross.
Our new live 4K production studio is designed to replicate our students’ future work environments, helping them gain a deep understanding of film production procedures, and confidence using industry-standard equipment, before starting their careers.
Our shiny new facilities include a live TV and film studio, equipped with an industry-grade green screen, lighting and audio capture equipment, and 4K cameras from Black Magic Design with the ability to record live studio and location broadcasts. We’ve even invested in Rokoko suits, high-tech motion capture suits worn by actors to construct complex animations!
The space features a soundproofed control room, with an industry-standard editing desk so our learners can gain experience in audio and lighting control and begin to develop skills and communication techniques between the control room and the studio.
We’ve also got high-performance PCs to form part of our editing suite. Software available to learners includes the full Adobe package, DaVinci Resolve, and Unreal Engine, helping them build key skills in editing and animation.
North Hertfordshire College’s new film, TV and VFX studio supports the delivery of our new Level 3 TV, Film and VFX programme. The course content covers a range of specialisms and prepares learners for job roles such as key grip, gaffer, sound engineer, director of photography, camera operator and more.

Recent investment in Hertfordshire’s film-industry includes plans for a £700 million film and TV-studio in Waltham Cross. They hope the 91-acre site will create up to 4500 jobs – and we’re confident that our learners will be a part of this new workforce.
