North Hertfordshire College’s Level 3 Hospitality & Catering students took over the kitchens at Knebworth Golf Club for the Captains’ Dinner, a charity fundraising event. We’re pleased to share that the event was a success, raising donations for the charity and one student even receiving a job offer as a result of their work at the event!
The golf captains’ charity of choice for the event was Young Lives Vs Cancer, which aims to raise money to support young people who are currently receiving treatment for the illness. Over the course of the evening, our students cooked and served a fine-dining menu for 132 guests and helped create a memorable evening for all those in attendance.
Anthony Gascoigne, one of NHC’s Catering tutors, told us: “This was a fantastic opportunity for the students to be responsible for such a large service. They had support from myself and Dave [Catering tutor] in the kitchen and Donna [Hospitality tutor] in the restaurant and did a brilliant job supporting this great cause.”
The menu featured ingredients sponsored by our friends at Riso Gallo and showcased our students’ talent in the kitchen. Our students even customised dishes to provide vegan options, meaning all guests could enjoy the courses on offer. The challenge of catering at scale and for a luxury event is something all our front and back of house students embraced, and we’re delighted to share that the teams received positive feedback for their work.
Emma Brooke, the Club Operations Manager at Knebworth Golf Club, said: “Thank you for an incredible night! It was very well received and a real success. A big thank you to Anthony, Dave, Donna, and especially all the students. We eagerly anticipate working with you again.”
The experience has left a positive impression on all our students and helped them to plan their next steps for after college. Kacper Rudzinski, Level 3 chef at North Hertfordshire College, commented: “It was a fantastic opportunity to take over the kitchen at Knebworth Golf Club. We served delicious food and successfully raised funds for the Young Lives vs Cancer charity. I am also pleased to share that I received a job offer to work as a chef at Knebworth Golf Course. This experience has been immensely rewarding, and I am grateful for the chance to support a great cause while having the opportunity to learn in a fast-paced environment.”
