To celebrate National Careers Week, learners across North Hertfordshire College’s Construction courses enjoyed a ‘Generation Construction’ workshop from Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (Hertfordshire LEP)! North Hertfordshire College was one of four Further Education colleges chosen to take part in the sessions and receive the exclusive insights.
Hertfordshire LEP’s Careers Hub partnered with a range of leading construction employers and organisations including Morgan Sindall, BAM, Willmott Dixon, SME AVV Solutions, and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) for the informative sessions. The workshops allowed our learners to hear directly from and interact with prospective employers to discover opportunities for after their studies.
Learners left the workshop feeling inspired and motivated for their future careers. Hearing about the different pathways into the industry will also help them make confident decisions about their next steps and prepare the skills they need for success.
Norma Odain-Hines, Social Value Manager at Morgan Sindall and leader of the workshop at NHC, commented: “We recognise, not just as an individual employer but on behalf of the construction sector, the importance of engaging with young people and highlighting the career routes available to them, especially those already studying a related discipline. The four colleges have really bought into this idea and made sure that relevant students are able to attend.”
Julie King, Head of Construction and Motor Vehicle at North Hertfordshire College, said: “We were delighted to invite representatives from construction employers into our classrooms for this informative event. It was a great chance for our learners to find out more about the values and ethos of the organisations and help them plan their future career decisions. The construction sector is full of opportunities for the next generation, and we’re proud to offer our students the support to help find their big break through events like Generation Construction.”
