As part of North Hertfordshire College’s school engagement activities, we welcomed some students from Fearnhill School to visit our hospitality and catering department!
The visit started off with an introduction to the College and our hospitality and catering department, with Fearnhill’s students having the chance to meet some of our staff and students. They then took part in a mixology class with our Level 2 Food and Beverage students to learn more about how to prepare and serve a variety of drinks.
From here, Fearnhill’s students worked with NHC’s Professional Cookery students to learn more about the catering side of the industry. They received a mini tour of our industry-standard kitchens where our students complete the practical side of their courses, as well as prepare the food served in Hart Kitchens. Our students chatted with their guests to share their experiences of their courses so far. There was even the chance to share some stories from their recent successes in a range of competitions, as some of our Professional Cookery students are fresh off the back of competing in Zest Quest Asia and Young Risotto Chef of the Year.
Following the tour and talks, our visitors from Fearnhill sat down to enjoy a meal in our Hart Kitchens restaurants – made by our Catering students and served by our Food and Beverage students!
Donna Ryan, one of NHC’s Hospitality and Catering tutors, said of the visit: “Our students did an amazing job and were true professionals. They were very respectful of the visiting students and were great representatives of the College.”
We’re looking forward to welcoming some of the Fearnhill students to North Hertfordshire College in September!
