North Hertfordshire College’s Science department has recently celebrated the third year of collaboration with University College London’s VaxHub provision! Thanks to the support of the VaxHub team, 75 of NHC’s Science students have now completed this transformative learning opportunity.
The VaxHub collaboration has provided the chance for our learners to apply their knowledge and skills to real workplace challenges and develop their understanding even further. Some of our T Level learners have even been able to take part in 9-week industry placements at UCL and RESILIENCE (a UK medicines manufacturing skills centre of excellence), too! This has given them invaluable hands-on experience in cutting-edge vaccine development – an invaluable addition to their CVs.
Amongst NHC’s T Level Scientists who have been on placement in UCL’s labs are Billy and Charlotte, who are now completing the second year of their studies at NHC. They were supervised by post-doctoral researcher Zijing during their 4-week summer placement, who said the following about their work:
“Billy and Charlotte have been excellent and have been eagerly getting on with any work that has been assigned to them, as well as showing sparks of innovation when any problems presented themselves.
“Their expertise has visibly grown over their time here, and we are hoping to move them onto an even more advance technique soon. All health and safety requirements are strictly adhered to and both seem to be enjoying themselves.”
Our team is delighted that the collaboration has been such a positive experience. Dr Rana El Farra, Science tutor at North Hertfordshire College, commented: “There are never enough words to express our gratitude to Dr Stephen Morris, Vax Hub, RESILIENCE Labs, and everyone involved in making this collaboration a resounding success. Your dedication and commitment continue to inspire us all.
“Here’s to another year of empowering the next generation of scientists and innovators!”
Thank you to UCL, VaxHub, and everyone involved for helping to Give a Future to our learners!
