Springboard Learners Spread Cheer for a Good Cause at Local Care Home

Published on December 27, 2025

As part of their work experience project, North Hertfordshire College’s Springboard learners were challenged with planning and coordinating a pop-up shop selling homemade gifts in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association’s Hertfordshire Branch, our Charity of the Year.

Throughout December, our Springboard learners were super busy crafting handmade Christmas gifts to sell at the stall in a local care home. Their thoughtful gifts included snow globes, crackers, knitted decorations and sock-snowmen. They even wrote personalised Christmas cards for each resident!

On Thursday 11th of December, our entrepreneurial learners visited our friends at Prince Michael of Kent Court Care Home in Watford to set up shop. Care home residents and staff thoroughly enjoyed the festive visit from our students and bought some extra special gifts for their friends and family.

Rosalie Courtney, Business Relationship Manager at Prince Michael of Kent Court Care Home said: “Thank you for coming to see our residents, they all had a wonderful time meeting the students and purchasing their Christmas gifts. I am glad we were able to support the students’ fundraiser.

“We would also like to maintain our relationship and hope that we can arrange opportunities throughout the year for the students to come in and speak with our residents again. I wish you all a happy Christmas and a prosperous new year.”

Our learners had a wonderful time visiting the residents, and one student is now considering a career in care!

We look forward to hearing about more exciting learning opportunities in collaboration with Prince Michael of Kent Court Care Home in 2026.
