North Hertfordshire College celebrated the start of the new academic year with a series of Welcome Events across all our campuses! This was a great opportunity for our learners to have fun, get to know each other, and find out more about services available at NHC and in the local area.
The events featured representatives from services and charities such as Samaritans, Hertfordshire Police, and Mind mental health support who were available to chat to about their work. NHC’s own Student Services team were also on-hand to talk about their role within the College community – and to share some free popcorn!
With an Instagram-worthy photobooth and inflatable football and darts available too, our learners had plenty of opportunities to hang out with their new classmates and get to know other learners based at their campus.
Claire Anderson-Byrne, Deputy Head of Student Services and one of the organisers of the events, told us: “The Welcome Events presented a unique opportunity for students to find out about internal and external organisations for support, meet other students, sign up for clubs and societies, and have fun! There was a vibrant atmosphere at each campus with students interacting with local organisations, finding out information from local services for support, and making suggestions for clubs they would like to see at NHC. Thank you to everyone who supported the events, they were a great success!”
Our guests from other local services and groups also enjoyed their NHC Welcome Events experience. John Prebble, Co-Director of Junction 7 Creatives, commented: “It was wonderful to be welcomed into North Hertfordshire College so warmly, and to have this chance to meet so many enthusiastic staff and students. Events like this really help join up the College and wider community.”

Laura Butcher, Youth Work Practice Manager for Services for Young People, also agrees. She said: “HCC Services for Young People enjoyed being part of the NHC Welcome Events. It was a great opportunity to talk to new students and let them know about the free sexual health support they can receive from us at the College and the other services we offer. We felt very welcomed by the team at NHC and enjoyed talking to other partners. The team enjoyed all three events.”
We look forward to seeing the other activities our learners get up to over the rest of the academic year!
