April and Leyland Featured in UAL Origins Creative Exhibition in London

Published on July 8, 2026

Two of North Hertfordshire College’s Creative Industries students will have work featured in the UAL Origins Creative exhibition in London’s Mall Galleries!

Both April and Leyland’s pieces were chosen from amongst 600 submissions to appear in the exhibition at the prestigious London gallery. Their work caught the attention of UAL Awarding Body’s curator, Calum Hall, and leading art organisation Creative Debuts when planning the exhibition.

April: ‘You were already there’

April’s piece is inspired by the red string theory and butterfly effect. It communicates that even when people are separated by time, place, or circumstance, those destined to meet will ultimately find one another; an unseen force guides them towards their fate.

Leyland: ‘Trapped’

Leyland’s short film explores the hidden emotions and experiences of individuals with additional needs. Leyland used extensive contextual research to shape creative decisions when making his thoughtful and engaging piece that communicates a personal and meaningful message.

The Origins Creative exhibition takes place from 15-18 July at the Mall Galleries in London. The event showcases emerging young artists from the UAL Awarding Body. It’s set to feature live music performances, short films, fashion pieces, and artwork. It aims to platform the next generation of creatives, allowing students a chance to experience exhibiting their work in a prominent London gallery.

Brett Clarke, Head of Creative Industries at North Hertfordshire College, told us: “I am immensely proud of April and Leyland for being featured in the exhibition. The pair have worked hard to develop their skills throughout their studies, allowing them to creatively communicate their vision.

“It’s an amazing achievement for them to already have work showcased in a prestigious London gallery at this early stage in their career, and a testament to the great things they’re sure to achieve in the future.”

Congratulations to April and Leyland!
