At North Hertfordshire College, we’re committed to making the transition from secondary school to college as easy as possible for all our learners. That’s why we’ve launched transition sessions for new applicants who might need support with the change before they start their courses in September.
Led by Curriculum Director, Sarah Robins, our Student Experience team designed the sessions to provide a gradual approach into college for those who might face challenges. The scheme helps applicants build friendships, get comfortable in their new educational environment and get familiar with college staff – while having loads of fun, too!
Our first sessions took place in Spring with great success, and we can’t wait for the next few in July and August. Activities planned by our Student Experience team include team building, voicing any worries applicants have, tours of the site, exploring clubs and enrichment opportunities and much more!
Transition sessions are available to young people who have an Educational and Health Care Plan (EHCP), those who have been homeschooled or out of education (NEET), and any applicants who are particularly anxious about starting college.
By building connections, answering questions and giving them a taste of life at NHC, we can help make sure all applicants feel their wellbeing is supported alongside their educational development before they start their studies in September.
Director of Curriculum at NHC, Sarah Robins commented:
“The transition from secondary school to an unfamiliar learning environment can be daunting for some of our applicants. We’ve designed these transition sessions to help these learners get comfortable at our campuses and build relationships with key staff they’ll work with in September.
“So far, the sessions have been fantastic. It’s been great to watch the applicant groups start to feel more confident about their transition. By establishing this confidence before applicants start their studies, we’re breaking down any barriers to their future learning.”
If you or a young person you know might need more support before enrolling at North Hertfordshire College this summer, get in touch with our Student Experience team to discuss transition sessions today.
