TWO PUBLIC SERVICES STUDENTS HAVE BEEN SELECTED AS THIS GIRL CAN AMBASSADORS
Two students at North Hertfordshire College (NHC) have been selected as ‘This Girl Can’ ambassadors, a campaign to promote sport among women.
Public Services students, Paige Ebbs and Morgan Lawlor, who were successfully chosen as This Girl Can ambassadors, will be tasked with raising awareness of the Sport England campaign within the college as well as promoting and delivering new and existing college activities.
The two students were invited to a regional training event on Friday 7th November, where they participated in activities to increase their knowledge and understanding of the campaign including the data, insight and rationale behind it.
Public services student, Morgan Lawlor said: “I’m so excited to be a This Girl Can ambassador and work to get more girls active in sport around the college!”
Fellow ambassador, Paige Ebbs said: “The training day was excellent and was a brilliant opportunity to learn more about the campaign and start thinking about what we can with the support of the college.”
Currently, the students are developing an action plan to deliver a number of female-friendly initiatives. They are encouraging all females from NHC that want to get more active and support the campaign to get involved.
The students will be working alongside Liz Calver, Head of Curriculum – Sport and Public Services, to try and encourage female students to get active. When asked about the students being successfully selected, Liz said: “I was so pleased for Morgan and Paige when they were chosen by the Association of Colleges Sport to be This Girl Can ambassadors, a brilliant achievement for them both. The campaign will give a real boost to our efforts to promote female participation in physical activity across NHC so we can get more students more active, more often.”
This Girl Can is a national campaign to encourage women and girls of all shapes, sizes, abilities and backgrounds to get active. Celebrating active women who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets. Last year the Association of Colleges Sport set out to identify a new group of inspiring ambassadors for this academic year, after successfully launching an ambassador programme last year.
