Enterprise Learners Collaborate with Tesco Community Champion

Published on August 10, 2023

North Hertfordshire College’s Enterprise Supported Studies group were invited by Lauren, the Tesco Community Champion for Stevenage Broadwater for a Community Clean-Up session in Shephalbury Park! Our learners got hands on with litter picking, using the tools and materials kindly provided by Lauren to help them safely collect the rubbish.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity led by Lauren, and it gave them a real sense of purpose and achievement. The students also enjoyed spending time outdoors and had lots of laughs along the way – especially when they found some particularly wild items that they didn’t expect to see in a park!

The morning was then finished off with refreshments for all students and staff, provided by Lauren and the Tesco Broadwater team. This was the perfect opportunity for our learners to rest, reflect, and marvel at their efforts through the clean and tidy park.

Danielle Bradley, Course Team Leader for Enterprise at North Hertfordshire College, commented: “The Enterprise Group thoroughly enjoyed working with the Tesco Community Champion Lauren on this Community Clear-Up at Shephalbury Park. All of the group could understand and appreciate the benefits of litter picking and they were amazed at some of the items that they found around the park, such as shoes and children’s toys.

“During our time at the park, we received some lovely comments from the general public, especially dog walkers, thanking us for the work we were doing. I think this would be a great activity for more of our Supported Studies learners to get involved in during the coming academic year.

“Lauren from Tesco was amazing, she provided the group with all the necessary tools to make the morning a great success.”

The Supported Studies team are looking forward to joining forces with Lauren again to complete further community projects in the future. We’d like to thank Lauren for organising this event for our students.

And that’s not all – as a generous thank you for our learners’ hard work, Lauren has continued to support NHC’s Enterprise students through a donation of hand tools, a voucher, and some compost to help launch a horticultural project with the students.

Thank you to Tesco for your continued partnership and support!
