“Tilly has been a very positive presence on the ward, and has been keen to learn throughout her weeks with us. She was keen to get involved from her first day, and has increased in confidence with patients, processes, and staff throughout that time. She has been able to carry out some personal care and basic observation tasks independently.”
As part of their T Level in Adult Nursing, all of North Hertfordshire College’s students take part in industry placements specifically designed to meet their career goals. This means that each of our students can have hands-on experience in the roles they’re interested in, helping them learn more about what it’s really like to work in that environment and take confident next steps towards their future.
For some of our second-year T Level Adult Nursing students, this has led them to complete placements on the wards of Bedford Hospital!
Our students have been working in wards ranging from Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), elderly care, general surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, and respiratory medicine. This has helped our learners feel more prepared for their next steps after college by giving them hands-on experience of what their future careers could look like in a particular nursing specialism.
The students have found this experience useful, with T Level student Gabriella telling us: “The staff on the ward are so nice and friendly. They always provided opportunities for me to complete tasks and observe, showing me how to do things and allowing me to complete tasks in a professional manner.”
It’s not just our students who are full of praise, either – the ward staff themselves are very complimentary of our students’ maturity, empathy, and dedication to their work. Check out some of the feedback our students received:

“Alannah has been brilliant, interacting with patients and taking observations. She has shadowed most of the transfers on the ward and also assisted with lunch and dinner. Overall, Alannah has shown good partnership and a great work ethic.”
