Two of North Hertfordshire College’s talented Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy students supported a fundraising sustainable fashion event in Hitchin for Helping Herts by providing hair and makeup for the models. The sold-out event was attended by 100 guests and raised a total of £4,500 for the organisation, which supports twelve different children’s and young people’s charities across Hertfordshire.
Community values were at the heart of the event, bringing local businesses, charities, and people together for a celebration of sustainability. Models showcased both designer and high-street brands on the runway, as sold at Hitchin’s Brick Lane store – the organisers of the event.
Maisie and Morgan, who are both studying their Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects, Hair and Media Makeup at NHC, completed hair and makeup for the catwalk models which complemented the clothes. This was the perfect opportunity to apply the skills and techniques they’ve learnt in the classroom to real clients and in a fast-paced environment, working to a brief and within a specific time frame.
Reflecting on how the event went, Maisie and Morgan told us: “We really enjoyed having the opportunity to do the hair and makeup for the catwalk models at the event, and we made lots of contacts for future work, too.”
Rebecca Sawyer, the owner of Brick Lane in Hitchin, commented: “Maisie and Morgan were phenomenal. They did really well with getting everybody ready, talking to everyone, and being really confident. If I do another event, I’d definitely call upon them to help out – they represented North Hertfordshire College really well and should be proud of themselves.”
