Take Alfie, for example – his T Level in Digital: Production, Design & Development has given him the chance to refine his skills in a real workplace through an industry placement with Mobility2You.
We caught up with Alfie to find out how his NHC journey and placement have gone so far:
Why did you choose to study Computing at college?
“I studied Information Technology at school and really enjoyed working on computers. I liked learning how technology works and how you can create things using computing. It felt like the best subject for me to continue studying at college because the Digital pathway teaches useful skills that can be used in many careers.”
What do you do on your placement?
“On my placement at Mobility2You, I worked on a range of marketing and digital tasks for the company. For example, I added products to the Mobility2You Shopify website, including uploading images and writing descriptions for the Mobility2You products. I also helped create banners, videos, flyers, and catalogue content for Mobility2You.
“We also worked on marketing ideas and campaigns. One interesting experience was going to a pharmacy and a mobility shop to set up stands for Mobility2You so customers could see the Mobility2You products in person.
“A lot of these tasks link directly to the skills we are learning on our Computing course – like design work and digital content creation. At college this year, we have focused a lot on front-end design. At Mobility2You, we were given tasks where we had to design pieces of marketing material, which drew on similar skills.
“Some of the designs we created were used across the country, which made the work feel very real and important for Mobility2You.”
How have Mobility2You supported you in your placement?
“Mobility2You supported me by showing how the business operations and marketing side works. My boss, Alpesh, helped guide us.
“He gave us the chance to work together as a team, which helped me learn from my colleagues and build a working relationship with the Mobility2You team. It was an opportunity to experience what it’s like working in a real business environment, especially in London.”
What do you hope to do in the future?
“I hope to find a career where I can continue building my knowledge in the computing industry and learn from other professionals. I want to keep improving my skills while working.
“I’d also like the opportunity to continue working with Mobility2You because I have enjoyed my placement with them and would like to learn even more from the team.”
What has been a highlight of your college experience?
“A highlight of my college experience has been developing my design and digital skills. Being able to apply them in real situations during my placement at Mobility2You has been rewarding.
“My placement has given me some great real-world experience. Travelling to London for work and finding my own way to their offices has helped me become more independent. I’ve also enjoyed attending customer events with Mobility2You, and seeing how the industry works from a business perspective.”
