Alex Speight, one of NHC’s Level 2 Barbering students, is a great example of how these opportunities can unlock new possibilities. We spoke to Alex to find out more about his NHC experience and what his future holds – check out his thoughts in his open letter:
“North Hertfordshire College is a safe and happy environment where I was able to learn and study barbering. I enjoyed all parts of the course, but what surprised me the most was that I was able to work on live models to practice the skills learnt in class and in my work placement.
“I’ve completed 350 hours of work placement as part of my course, working with the local barbers The Cutter. It’s really helped to develop my skills. I found the placement to be informative and allowed me to have hands-on experience in cutting hair under supervision.
“Through my studies, I was able to seek employment in my dream job – I’ve already secured a position as a junior barber for the end of my course. My course tutor has helped me a lot with working on my confidence and has offered continued support which has helped me secure this paid job.
“In the future, I hope to use the skills and my experience to open up my own barbering shop or travel with a barbering van.”
