North Hertfordshire College’s Health & Social Care team recently welcomed Sophie, a former NHC student, back to our campus for a guest speaker session!
Sophie started her NHC journey as a student on our Level 2 Health & Social Care course. The knowledge and skills that she developed on the course helped her to progress to the Level 3 course, and ultimately open the doors to her current role as a Radiology Assistant.
During her guest speaker session, Sophie shared some of her insights about the sector and used her experiences to bring the concepts our students have been learning about to life. From the different types of MRI machines to the considerations the radiology team need to make for patients with different conditions, Sophie’s stories have helped give our learners some new ideas to think about.
She also shared details about her career journey so far and how her NHC experience helped her to plan for her steps into the workplace. Reflecting on that journey, Sophie told us: “NHC gave me lots of support with finding placements and offering experiences to go alongside my qualification. My tutors also gave me lots of information on the various routes that are available within the NHS.
“College taught me to be more confident in my abilities and to trust my own knowledge and my instincts. This helped me when I was starting my career in radiography, and this confidence still supports me now in my journey towards becoming a qualified radiographer. I would definitely recommend North Hertfordshire College to other students because there’s so much support for whatever you decide to do. There’s always someone to talk to who can help you on your journey.”
