Our Protective Services learners were recently invited to visit Anglia Ruskin University for a jam-packed day exploring cybercrime, led by a former Metropolitan Police Detective.
The day started with an insightful presentation on the definition of cybercrime, from data breaches, hacking, copyright infringement and more. The group were particularly engaged when looking at the media’s portrayal of the Dark Web and the impact this has on the public perception of cybercrime. In the afternoon, a Lecturer and former lawyer led discussions about cyber-enabled crime and the various Criminology, Cybercrime and Cybersecurity programmes offered at Anglia Ruskin University.
The Anglia Ruskin University student ambassadors were exceptional when guiding our learners on a campus tour and offering valuable, first-hand advice for their next steps.
Two current Anglia Ruskin students then shared their experiences in the current Cyber Leaders Challenge Competition, They explained how this opportunity served as a valuable career opportunity and is helping to shape their future in the cyber field. Our learners were super excited to hear that Anglia Ruskin’s students were also involved in a real-world national cyber emergency. Cybercrime is becoming an increasingly concerning matter with a vast amount of the public unaware of the impact it could have on their lives. Overall, fraud makes up 40% of all crime with an alarming rise in cyber based cases.
Our Protective Services learners will apply the knowledge they gained on their visit to Anglia Ruskin University to their next unit ‘Introduction to Criminology’, where they’ll explore how the quality of cyber systems can impact the potential for cybercrime.
