Our Protective Services learners have had a very busy start to this academic year!
Here’s a rundown of what they’ve been up to so far…
September
Back at the start of this academic year, our Protective Services were visited by representatives from the Army Reserve for an insightful presentation discussing the various roles and responsibilities within the field.
The following week, Hertfordshire Constabulary joined our Level 3 cohort to discuss apprenticeships within the police force.
October
Representatives from Hertfordshire Constabulary visited our Protective Services students again, exploring the methods of a lawful stop and search procedure. As October was Black History Month, our guests discussed the damage unlawful stop and searches have caused within black communities.
Next up in October, our level 2 and 3 students were invited to act as civilians in a real-life training exercise to ensure protocols are in place for potential terrorist incidents.
In mid-October, we were visited by some Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) who spoke with our learners about forensics and the key roles they play at crime scenes.
Last stop in October was a jam-packed trip to Willen Lake. As part of their Unit 10 – Outdoor Adventurous Activities, our very brave Public Services learners had a go at paddleboarding and high ropes!
November
November saw the return of our Protective Services learners’ annual operation with Hertfordshire Constabulary. Operation Augustine saw our students take part in a real-life police operation, designed to catch shopkeepers knowingly selling prohibited items to under-18s. A huge well done to our brave learners for making a real difference in their local community.
The last exciting event before the Christmas holidays was an insightful trip to the Royal Courts of Justice. Our learners visited court to recreate a real life trial, strengthening their understanding of the judicial system and the procedures expected in court. This links to their Unit 13 – Introduction to Criminology.
Phew! We are exhausted just writing this! Super excited to see what our enthusiastic Protective Services department get up to throughout 2025 – stay tuned!
