We’re extremely proud to announce that NHC Learning Technologist, James Sutton, has achieved Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIE) status!
MIE Experts are visionary educators who are always learning, growing, and collaborating with others to create positive change in education. They use Microsoft technologies and innovative teaching practices to enhance student engagement, creativity, and collaboration.
They also share their expertise and insights with other educators through various platforms, such as blogs, social media, and more.
You’ll often spot James around campus with some kind of new advanced technology to be used in the classroom. For example, he introduced virtual reality headsets to NHC, helping to bring students’ studies to life. He’s also recently secured some state-of-the-art robots, designed to enrich our Supported Studies and Maths students’ learning!
We’re super excited about James’ upcoming podcast, too! Entitled Practice What You Teach, James will be sharing all the latest updates in education technology, and how we can make use of this at NHC to maximise learning.
To gain his new MIE status, James shared evidence of how he’s been using tools like Teams, Forms, Sway and Copilot to help with collaboration, streamline planning and improve learning experiences. He also actively engaged with training modules on Microsoft Learn by completing four learning paths – AI for Educators, Master Microsoft Teams for any learning environment, Microsoft Educator Academy and 21st century learning design.
As a result of James’ fantastic achievement, NHC staff are now encouraged to achieve the same status under his expert guidance. By the end of this academic year, we hope our Digital Champions from across curriculums will achieve MIE status, giving us access to inspiration and ideas that will shape our own digital journey.
James commented:
“I have no formal IT qualifications with all my knowledge around modern apps being self-taught. Having taken on the role of Learning Technologist in 2023, the MIE status is a huge boost to my confidence, giving me access to a group of educators worldwide where we can exchange ideas and inspire change.
“I can now equip tutors to use Microsoft digital tools more effectively, which will benefit the curriculum teams and learners. I’m also excited to encourage and support others to undertake the same training and gain the same status.”
