Our Supported Studies learners have been channelling their inner entrepreneurs with some field to table cooking!
Land-based learners Hope, Chloe, Cleo, Darcy, Harvey and Lilly worked hard to select and pick the ripest apples from Church Farm Ardeley’s orchard.
Once the juiciest apples were picked, peeled, and cut, it was time to head back to the NET Kitchen to cook up a storm! Learners channelled their inner Mary Berry to whip up a delicious organic apple crumble using the fresh apples they collected from Church Farm. Our star bakers made sure to make some custard to pair it with, too – yum!
With the freshly baked apple crumble and custard ready to sell, our Land-based learners set up a stall in the atrium of our Stevenage campus. Staff and students flocked to the stall to sample some their showstopping crumble.
One staff member who tried our learners’ crumble said: “It was absolutely delicious!”
Our Land-based learners’ crumble sold out super quickly, and the team managed to raise a fantastic amount to go towards their annual trip to the zoo! Well done, everyone!
A huge thank you to Church Farm Ardeley for providing this valuable learning opportunity. Learners were able to build on their employability, enterprise and culinary skills, and they really enjoyed following the apples all the way from branch to plate.
The group are already back and busy working on the farm as well as their own allotment, ready to run some more enterprises using natural materials. We cannot wait to see what delicious organic treats they make next!
