NHC Women’s Football Team Win Tournament

Published on May 2, 2025

North Hertfordshire College is proud to share that our Women’s Football team won a tournament in the University of Bedfordshire’s Football Festival, in partnership with Luton Town Football Club.

The tournament, hosted at Kenilworth Road Stadium, brought together hundreds of students from local schools and colleges in a vibrant and competitive atmosphere at one of the region’s most iconic sporting venues.

In the semi-final, NHC Women scored a late equaliser which took the game to penalties. They then progressed to the final against the strong Samuel Whitbread Academy team.

Our team kept the game at 0-0 against the fierce competition, taking the game to penalties once more. We’re proud that the NHC Women’s team didn’t miss a single penalty over the two penalty shootouts, leading to them lift the cup.

Abbie, who played on the team, told us: “All our hard work over the season led us to success at the very end. We’ve been in the team for two years, and it was amazing to end with the trophy.”

Our team used great sportsmanship to make it through the group stages, with some of our players even supporting other teams in making up their numbers.

Team manager and Sports tutor Chris Bentley commented: “The players had a great attitude throughout the day and played some great football. In the knockout games, they performed under high pressure situations and worked well tactically to win the final. I was so impressed with the players’ ability to work together and take on tactical information to help themselves and the team.”

Liz Chatman, Head of Sports, Protective Services, Business, and Travel, said: “The experience of playing on a professional pitch was a rare and exciting opportunity for the team, and they rose to the challenge with confidence and determination. To ultimately go on and win the tournament was an amazing achievement!

“Taking part in events like this offers so much more than just the final result. It gave our students the chance to test themselves in a new environment, build confidence, and engage with peers from across the region. The team showed real maturity, skill, and sportsmanship throughout the day and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievement.”

Thank you to the University of Bedfordshire and Luton Town FC for hosting such a memorable and meaningful event!
