NHC PLUMBING STUDENTS TRAIN WITH GEBERIT

Published on April 6, 2022

As part of your course at North Hertfordshire College, you’ll be able to take part in a range of extracurricular activities that will open you up to new opportunities and new skills, all of which will help you secure a job in the future! This includes learning how to use tools that are commonly used in industry, like our Plumbing students have been doing with Geberit!

Level 2 Plumbing students have recently been working with representatives from Geberit to learn more about the mapress machine, a tool used on copper fittings to join pipes cleanly and with minimal waste. Mapress machines are commonly used by plumbers, which is why knowing how to use one comes under the learning criteria for our level 2 students. Our students now have an added advantage when starting their careers in that they’ve not only learnt how to use this machine, but they’ve also learnt directly from one of the biggest mapress manufacturers in the world! They’ve even earned training certification to prove it.

Our students have found this experience to be very useful to their development and learning. Charlie Hamilton, one of NHC’s Level 2 Plumbing students, said: “I found the session to be very good, and it’s great that I have the certificate to show for future work as well. Now I have a good understanding of the mapress machine, ready for my next step.”

Whilst this is the first time that representatives from Geberit have come in to work with our students, we’re proud to say that this is now going to become an annual experience.

Gareth Rozee, one of NHC’s Plumbing tutors, said: “This was a fantastic learning opportunity, and the visit has improved our learners’ education and their confidence in the skill. It is a great opportunity for our students to have something on their CV that will stand out to employers when they begin work.”
