MORGAN SINDALL SHORT COURSE PROVIDES SKILLS FOR SUCCESS

Published on October 19, 2022

North Hertfordshire College’s Construction Hub, in collaboration with the CITB and Stevenage Works, recently hosted a short construction course sponsored by Morgan Sindall!

The two-week programme was designed to provide learners with the essential skills and knowledge they need for a successful career in the construction industry. During the programme, learners took part in a range of sessions to prepare for their Level 1 Asbestos Awareness and CSCS Health and Safety exams – qualifications that are essential for any labourer looking to work on a construction site.

Learners completed a variety of practical sessions including basic bricklaying and plastering tasks in our dedicated workshop spaces, giving them a taste of what it’s like to work on-site ahead of their on-site work experience placements. Employability sessions were also included in the short course, with learners improving their CV writing and job application techniques to make sure they feel confident and ready to enter the industry at the end of the course.

To round off the programme, learners took part in a series of mock interviews with representatives from Morgan Sindall, Macai Limited, Danny Sullivan Group, Hays, AVV Solutions, and Randstan Limited. The employers provided valuable feedback to the learners to help them improve their interview techniques, and some learners even received employment offers!

Julie King, Head of Curriculum for Construction and Motor Vehicle at North Hertfordshire College, said: “For candidates to have the opportunity to complete mock interviews and gain on-site experience ahead of entering the construction industry is invaluable, and is part of why the Construction Hub project continues to be a success. We’re pleased to hear the positive feedback from employers as a result of the mock interviews and look forward to seeing what they go on to achieve after their on-site placements. We are looking forward to further collaboration with Morgan Sindall in the coming months”
