North Hertfordshire College’s Supported Studies courses are for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities who require discrete special education needs (SEND) provision and additional support. Our courses are taught by our friendly and experienced teams who are here to help our students on their learning journey – like Wendy Luckman!
Wendy works with our Supported Studies students as a Specialist Learning Support Assistant. With experience in teaching and supporting learners of different ages, and a passion for making a difference in young people’s lives, Wendy is the friendly face who helps our students through their college experience and beyond.

What inspired you to apply for your role?
“Before I joined North Hertfordshire College, I was teaching my own children. I got my son through his GCSEs and to college and through university by home educating him. I wanted to make a difference in young people’s lives, and grow in my role as a teaching assistant, which is why I decided to join North Hertfordshire College as a Specialist Learning Support Assistant.”
What do you enjoy the most about working with North Hertfordshire College?
“I enjoy meeting other people and getting to know them better, whether that’s staff or new students. I also enjoy working with the students and helping them on their learner journey. Our courses are quite varied and fun, which is something that I think lots of our students enjoy.
“One of my favourite memories so far from working at the college is when an Aspire student who is non verbal was singing to me and laughing at me when I played air guitar”
If you could speak to someone that’s planning on joining NHC, what would you say to them?
“Always ask lots of questions and never assume. There’s always more things to learn and room to improve and grow!”
We think all jobs in education are some of the most important and fulfilling jobs in the world – helping people realise their potential and build a life for themselves; helping businesses to grow and improve; and helping to build strong, vibrant communities.
