Meet the Team – Tracey Izzard

Published on February 17, 2025

At North Hertfordshire College, we’re keen to help our staff develop personally and professionally to achieve their career goals. One of the ways we do this is by supporting our experienced tutors to become coaches that can support their colleagues to further improve their own teaching skills – just like Tracey Izzard!

As well as being a course team leader and tutor for our Beauty Therapy courses, Tracey also works alongside our Quality team, as a Teaching and Learning Coach, to take our teaching sessions to the next level.

Find out more about Tracey’s professional development journey with North Hertfordshire College in her meet the team interview:

What is your job at North Hertfordshire College?

“I’ve been working at North Hertfordshire College as a Course Team Leader in the Beauty Therapy department for 23 years, and I was looking for a new challenge. That’s why I decided to become a Teaching and Learning Coach with the College alongside my Course Team Leader work. I now work three days a week in the Beauty Therapy department, and two days a week in the Quality department.

“As a Teaching and Learning Coach, I support staff to develop their professional skills as teachers. I do this by delivering continuous professional development (CPD) sessions to colleagues and by working with Heads of Departments to support work on the Quality Improvement Plans (QIP). I also help staff work towards meeting the Education & Training Foundation’s (ETF) professional standards.”

What do you enjoy about being a Teaching & Learning Coach?

“My new role enables me to support and help new tutors to develop their teaching skills. It also give me the opportunity to see some amazing teaching practices that are used throughout the College. I’ve gotten to know the staff across the College so much better as a result of this role, and I’ve got a stronger understanding of how each area works. That’s been a real highlight for me – meeting and getting to know the amazing staff we have here at NHC.

“I’ve seen some really amazing teaching sessions from my work as a Teaching and Learning Coach. I love seeing the staff I’m supporting grow and develop in their personal and professional skills.”

What would you say to someone who’s thinking of joining the North Hertfordshire College team?

“The staff and support here is amazing. There’s also some amazingly creative teaching and learning sessions across the different areas of the College that makes it an exciting place to work and learn.”
