Meet The Team: Heather Almond

Published on July 24, 2025

Meet Heather Almond, Head of Marketing and Communications here at North Hertfordshire College. She works behind the scenes on all things from campaigns to content. If you’ve attended an event, she’s probably organised it!

We spoke to Heather about the amazing experiences she’s had while at NHC, and the career journey she has taken:

What inspired you to pursue a career in marketing and communications?

“I have always enjoyed figuring out what makes people tick, and in all my previous roles within the college I enjoyed any activities related to events, marketing and planning. Whenever I had the opportunity to be involved in event activities I jumped at the chance!

“I’ve worked at the college for a long time and have had the pleasure of working with many people over the years, some of my previous managers have been truly inspirational. I feel that they have really helped shape my enjoyment of marketing and communications. It probably also helps that I love a list and being organised!”

Have you changed roles at all whilst working at NHC?

“I have worked here for nearly 25 years and have had many roles within the college. I have worked with so many different members of staff and in a variety of teams, which has been amazing. Some of these roles include staff development, student services, community engagement and employer engagement, each of these roles have included elements that are now part of my job as Head of Marketing and Communications. I have loved working in each department, and they have all equipped me with skills that I continue to use in my current role.”

What do you enjoy the most about working at NHC?

“The people! It really is like a family here, and I honestly feel so lucky to have met all the wonderful people I now call friends. I love that people of all ages and backgrounds get on so well, and the varied nature of everyone here means I can always have a laugh as well as having someone to turn to for advice or support if I ever need it.

“In my role, no two days are ever the same, and that just makes this job even more fun – I never get bored and there is always an exciting new project or campaign to get stuck into. I have an amazing team, who make me laugh every day, I feel their enjoyment of the work as much as my own. We are prepared to take risks, and push the boundaries, and we take pride in our achievements across the year. My team really do make it even easier to love what I do!”

If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking of joining NHC, what would it be?

“NHC is a great place to work, there are countless progression opportunities available if you work hard and have the desire to succeed. Working with multiple departments and supporting in a range of activities helped me to build my skills and deepen my understanding of the organisation, helping me to move through my career path. Also, I know I’ve said it before, but the people are just amazing! Anyone new will be greeted with open arms and will find their place to fit in here.

“If you’re looking to work closer with your community in a role that really makes a difference to peoples’ lives then NHC is the perfect place, you won’t regret it.”
