MEET THE TEAM – GARETH ROZEE

Published on March 28, 2022

Over at North Hertfordshire College’s Engineering and Construction Campus (also known as the ECC), you can learn a range of different construction and motor vehicle trades from our team of expert teaching staff, many of whom have past experience of working within the trades themselves.

In this edition of our Meet the Team interviews, we sat down with Gareth Rozee, one of NHC’s Plumbing course team leaders for Level 1 and 2. Find out more about his journey into teaching below!

What did you do before you started teaching at NHC?

“Before teaching, I used to be a labourer and worked in construction. I’ve worked in the trade before, so I know how it works and I can bring this experience into my teaching. I decided to become a teacher because I really enjoy seeing the progress of the students and seeing them learn and understand different topics. I always feel like I’ve done something good when I finish work for the day.”

What has been a highlight of working at NHC?

“There’s no greater feeling than when a student comes back to me and says that they’re working in the industry they wanted to break into. When I hear that, I know that I’ve done my job properly.”

If you could say anything to someone looking to study at NHC, what would it be?

“I’d tell them that it’s a supportive environment and we have some good facilities here. This is a great place for you to learn if you want to be treated like an adult. There’s no judgement on who you are – if you show up and work hard, then you will be successful. Especially if you’re willing to get involved, push yourself, and learn new things.”

Any closing thoughts?

“You should always say yes to an education, knowledge is empowering.”
