Meet the Team – Emily Day

Published on July 21, 2023

At North Hertfordshire College, we’re proud to work with our brilliant colleagues in our Additional Learning Support team, who help our students by providing a little extra help in the classroom and beyond.

Meet Emily Day, who works with our ALS team as an Inclusion Assistant! As an NHC-alum herself, Emily is able to bring her own understanding of the college experience to her work, supporting learners along their own journey. Find out more about Emily’s NHC career journey in her Meet the Team interview!

What do you do in your role as an Inclusion Assistant?

“I support learners with their studies in their chosen course, as well as with any issues they are dealing with outside of college. Our work in the Additional Learning Support team allows all students to equally achieve their qualification at the end of their course by removing barriers and levelling the playing field.”

Can you tell us a little about your career journey so far?

“I started off as a student at North Hertfordshire College myself in 2019, where I was studying Level 2 Public Services before progressing to the Level 3 programme. Once I completed the course and got my qualification, I didn’t know what I wanted to do next. I saw the vacancy to join the ALS team, and I loved everything that the job entailed.

“I started working in that role in 2022, and I will soon be working with the ALS department as a permanent team member this coming September, which I’m really excited about!”

What do you enjoy the most about working with the College?

“The thing I love the most about working with NHC is the fantastic team. You meet some incredible people who will support you in your work and are always willing to help you out. It’s also very rewarding to see the students progress throughout the year and I love looking back at the end of their journey to see how much they have grown and achieved.

“My highlights from working with NHC so far are the amazing students I’ve met. They’ve worked so hard during their studies throughout the year, and I’ve built a really good relationship with them. They’ve achieved so much in their courses and beyond and have made so much great progress.”

If you could speak to someone who is thinking of joining the North Hertfordshire College team, what would it be?

“You can make such a difference by working in education. You’re able to be part of young people’s lives, watching them grow, and helping them navigate through their time with the College, which is an amazing feeling.”
