Meet Aaron Davidson, a tutor and Course Team Leader over in our Computing, Networking & Design department. We asked him more about his experience of going from student to industry to teaching:
How did you get into teaching?
“I was a student at North Hertfordshire College myself; I started on the Level 1 course and finished my Level 3 in 2020. I joined Stevenage Borough Council in an IT role after my course, which helped me gain a lot of the IT knowledge I use with my students today.
“I’ve always wanted to gain experience in the industry before moving into teaching. The opportunity became available to join the Computing department as a tutor, and I decided to go for it.”
What do you do in your role as a tutor and course team leader?
“My job involves not just teaching across multiple IT courses, but also making sure that the student experience is up to standard. I’m the Course Team Leader for the Level 2 IT programme, so I’m responsible for making sure we’re teaching the content our students need for the industry, and that they’re progressing and learning as expected.”
What do you enjoy the most about working at North Hertfordshire College?
“My favourite part about working at North Hertfordshire College is the fact that I know I’m making a difference when I’m teaching. I enjoy helping my students to develop and achieve their goals for the future.
“A particular highlight of my career with NHC so far was during our recent Ofsted inspection. Seeing all my colleagues from across the College come together to support each other through the process was really great.”
If you could speak to someone who is thinking of applying for a course at NHC, what would you say to them?
“I would say that the College is a development space for the next generation. No matter what course you’re doing, whether it’s a Computing course or one of our other subjects, our new and improving facilities are driving the College forward. In our Computing courses in particular, we’re always implementing new tools and topics from the sector. We engage with multiple employers from different slices of a very broad industry, helping our learners to understand just how many opportunities are open to them.”
