At North Hertfordshire College, we deliver a range of adult courses. We believe learning should be lifelong, whether you’re looking to gain qualifications for use in your career, or simply improve your mental wellbeing.
A number of our adult courses are designed to equip learners with key skills for use in their personal lives, like our women-focused Electrical course.
In February, we delivered our first ever women-focused Electrical course, designed to help learners build confidence in their everyday construction and home maintenance skills.
Our debut session was led by experienced NHC Electrical tutor, Tony Scott, and it was a huge success! Participants took part in hands-on activities covering:
- Essential health and safety when working with electrical circuits
- Changing a socket outlet
- Replacing a light switch
- Fitting a new light fixture
- Identifying and troubleshooting common electrical faults
Not only did this course support local adult learners to gain key electrical skills, but our current 16+ Construction & Trades students were able to apply their classroom learning when creating learning resources for the session.
The course was extremely popular. Some of the learner feedback included:

Following on from the success of this female-focused class, we have developed a range of further courses for women. We’re looking forward to the next one!
