North Hertfordshire College was pleased to welcome Bim Afolami, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, to its Hitchin campus for a tour of our facilities and to see the progress made on our new sports centre!

During his visit, Bim visited a number of lessons to meet NHC students and see what they’re working on in their classes, from catering students working in Hart Kitchens to public services students working on their pitches for the Jack Fleckney foundation. The visit rounded off with a tour around the construction site of the new sports centre, which is on track to be completed by Summer 2022.

North Hertfordshire College’s new sports centre includes a new multi-purpose sports hall, gym and changing areas, a new 3G football pitch, and sports science teaching facilities. By updating these facilities, we’re able to support our students in building the skills they need to work in the sports, sports science and leisure industries. These updated facilities will put NHC at the forefront of sports science, making us the perfect place for our students to learn more about the technical and biological elements behind their favourite sports.

Bim Afolami, MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, said: “It was wonderful to be back at North Hertfordshire College and see the great work they are doing with young people, in addition to seeing the building of new fantastic facilities like the 3G pitch that will be open for the summer!”

Kit Davies, Principal of North Hertfordshire College, said: “We were delighted to invite Bim to our campus to talk through our exciting curriculum plans and show him our students and staff in action! Being able to walk around our sport facilities construction project has hopefully given a sense of how fantastic these facilities will be for our students and for our local community.”

We’ll be launching the new sports centre with a grand ceremony in the summer – keep an eye on our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram pages for more information!
