A group of learners from North Hertfordshire College’s Level 3 Health & Social Care have contributed to Hertfordshire County Council’s body image campaign, Real Bodies in Herts!
The campaign follows the news that over half of young people state that they worry about the way they look. Aimed at young people themselves to inspire and encourage body positivity, NHC’s Health & Social Care learners were invited to Stevenage FC’s Lamex Stadium for a range of activities and to share input which helped shaped the campaign. As part of the visit, our learners also heard from a guest speaker, Zoe Burnett, who works with the specialist eating disorder charity First Steps ED, about her own experience of getting through difficulties with body image.
The learners had space to share their own concerns about body image and answer questions about what they already understand about body confidence. They also shared advice that they would give to someone who was struggling with body confidence issues, which helped to shape the support the campaign provides to other young people.
Health & Social Care tutor Anna Copper said: “It was fantastic to see our learners talking honestly about such an important issue and having their views not only listened to but used to shape such an important campaign.”
