North Hertfordshire College’s Hairdressing and Barbering students were joined by the Great British Barber Bash (GBBB) team for a styling techniques showcase, as part of our ongoing partnership!
During the latest session, our learners enjoyed a showcase of the latest industry trends and techniques so that they can replicate popular hairstyles alongside a trouble-shooting session about how to overcome any issues with certain styles. They also took part in a discussion about the pros and cons of working in barbershops and starting out on your own, helping our students plan their next steps after college. For our students who are interested in creating their own barbering empire, the team shared top tips for starting your own business and how to make those all-important initial decisions.
The session also included some more general advice for starting careers in the hairdressing sector, including how to manage your social media presence, tips on increasing interest online, and the importance of good communication. To round the experience off, learners had the opportunity to ask the team questions about their own career journeys and the things they’ve learnt along the way.
George Jeffrey, one of NHC’s Level 2 Barbering students, said: “I really got a lot out of the session, and watching the demonstrations was really helpful for my future studies and work.”
The partnership between NHC and the Great British Barber Bash sees our students benefit from a sense of belonging in the barbering community right from the start of their studies. As well as wearing GBBB uniform and using their branded kit, our learners also have free access to 20 weeks of Barber Club Live on Facebook. The partnership helps to showcase the barbering community and opportunities, allowing students to learn and share experiences. There’s also the opportunity to receive support from like-minded barbers working across the country through the online networks.
But that’s not all! Our Hairdressing & Barbering teams ran an internal competition where six tickets to the Great British Barber Bash’s London showcase were up for grabs. Students were entered into the running through maintaining high attendance, good grades, and making positive contributions within their classes.
