Did you know that North Hertfordshire College’s courses for school leavers have work experience placements built in? Placements are a great way for learners to put their knowledge and skills to the test in a real work environment and discover for themselves what it’s like to work in their chosen sector. Some of our students perform so well on these placements, they’re even offered paid work as a result – just like Level 2 Beautician Ella!
Ella started a 30 hour placement at Letchworth’s Glow Getter’s salon in May 2024. This popular salon offers a range of services from spray tans to BIAB nail treatments, providing the perfect opportunity for Ella to increase her confidence in working with clients.
Charlotte Mortimer, who works at Glow Getter’s as the salon manager, praised Ella’s enthusiasm during her placement. She told us: “Whilst having Ella here with us at Glow Getter’s, we couldn’t fault her. She worked so hard, asked all the right questions, and really showed us she would be great in a salon. She was always on time and got stuck right in. Ella was a pleasure to work with.”
It’s safe to say that Ella’s positive work ethic definitely made an impact on the Glow Getter’s team. In fact, at the end of her 30 hour placement, the salon offered Ella a paid role at the salon with an immediate start date! We’re pleased to share that Ella has accepted this role and began working there straight away. She’s in good company, too – she now works alongside fellow NHC alum Erin, who completed her own Level 3 qualification in Beauty Therapy Techniques in 2022!
The 2023/24 academic year was the first time North Hertfordshire College’s Work Experience team had worked with Glow Getter’s, and we are delighted that the collaboration was such a success. The salon offered four placements to our students and ran bespoke promotion periods to help our learners access as many opportunities to complete client work as possible.
Lindsey Simpson, Work Experience Coordinator at North Hertfordshire College, commented: “This has been an amazing opportunity for our students, and we look forward to developing this programme and working together with the salon again very soon!”
Thank you to the Glow Getter’s team for helping to Give a Future to our students.
