North Hertfordshire College has been celebrating another year of successful GCSE results for learners across our courses. Many of our learners who collected their results completed their GCSE maths and/or English qualifications alongside their courses, whether as adult learners or 16+ school leavers. With their new qualifications under their belts, our learners are now able to access new opportunities such as further NHC courses, apprenticeships, university, or starting their careers.
Kit Davies, North Hertfordshire College Principal, said: “I am beyond proud to see another excellent year of results for our students on their GCSE programmes. The incredible hard work and dedication of our learners and teachers combined are reflected in these final grades and I hope they recognise these achievements and take time to celebrate what they’ve accomplished. Thanks to these new qualifications, so many of our adult and 16+ learners can now progress into their chosen next steps, and I am delighted to think of the new opportunities that are now open to them.
“As a college community, we are so pleased to see the learners’ achievements this year and look forward to seeing what the future holds for them.”
Particular success stories amongst those collecting their GCSE results include Donna Ryan, one of NHC’s Catering and Hospitality lecturers, whose new qualification allows her to study for her QTLS in the future. She said: “I’ve been up since 3am worrying about these results and I am so happy with my grade, I just can’t believe it! To get a 6 has absolutely been the icing on the cake.
“I would suggest anyone who doesn’t have the grades to go for it, the course was so motivational and the teamwork was amazing in the classroom. We really achieved this as a team, huge thanks to the students and my teacher Jen.”
Zita Gombas, who also collected her GCSE maths and English grades, has now progressed onto her level 3 qualification. She said: “Maths was a lot more enjoyable at college, and my lessons made me more confident in maths which I never was before. My tutor, Suzanne, was great at explaining everything and now I’m a lot more confident. I can now move onto level 3 health and social care.
“Studying English here has helped me it’s a lot easier to understand in college and the teachers help so much when you don’t understand something. They break it down until you get it”.
Sofia Brisson is another student pleased with her new GCSE grades. She told us: “These results mean I can go and study fashion in London!”
Other happy faces on results day included Corey Mather-Howard, Grace McCarthy and Chantele Egboghu, who received the grades they need to be able to progress in their
studies.
The achievements of our students have been recognised by teaching teams across the North Hertfordshire College community. Rebecca Rutherford, Head of Maths & English for
North Hertfordshire College’s Stevenage and Engineering & Construction Campuses, said: “I’m delighted by the achievements of our students this year. Many of our students have
worked hard to overcome barriers to achieve the grades they need to be successful in their future plans, whether that’s further study or their future careers. I’d like to congratulate all of
our learners who collected their results today and wish them all the best with their next steps.”
