North Hertfordshire College would like to extend our thanks to Daniel and Emma Hone at Partnership Heating & Plumbing for participating in our Give A Future campaign!
Both Daniel and Emma started their plumbing careers as apprentices, and they were therefore interested in ‘giving something back’ to the next generation of plumbers. The pair were keen to offer work experience placements before to NHC students, as well as to support the College through wider engagement with our learners, with a view to offer apprenticeship opportunities in the future.
It was through the Give A Future scheme that we then welcomed Daniel to some lessons on our Plumbing courses, where he shared his career experiences and even helped to develop an employer-led project for our Level 1 plumbers!
The support then kept on coming, with two NHC students (Nathan Lynch and Jamie Lynch) being chosen to take part in a placement with Partnership Heating & Plumbing. Daniel was very impressed with Jamie and Nathan during their placements, noting that they are both “hard-working and very keen to learn.”
Daniel commented: “They are both extremely polite to customers and have the beginnings of a great work ethic. I’m really happy with their level of questioning, and hope they’ve found this placement helpful.”
Jamie said of his experience: “Working with Daniel at Partnership Heating and Plumbing taught me a lot of things that I feel will be useful in real-world situations. He took the time to explain everything he was doing, making sure we understood. It was a welcoming environment, and I had a lot of fun working with him. I would recommend this experience to anyone who is interested in getting into plumbing.”
Partnership Heating & Plumbing are a great example of how employer support can make such a difference to our students, and we look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.
If you’re an employer who would like to give back and support the next generation of employees, please check out our Give A Future page for more information about how to get involved.
