At North Hertfordshire College, we’re proud to work with amazing employers who help to shape our students’ skills development – like Kingdom Creative! The award-winning local video production company has worked with clients such as Formula 1, Aston Martin, and Hilton to create a range of videos, and now they’re sharing their knowledge and helping our students prepare for their own successful filmmaking careers.
The Kingdom Creative team have led several industry experience projects for our students since 2022, spanning different topics, video formats, and target audiences. This academic year has seen our TV, Film, and VFX students work in small teams to create short factual videos about topics they’re interested in.
To launch the project, our learners visited Kingdom Creative’s offices in Hitchin for a series of workshops on cinematography, lighting, and editing, plus tips on how to build a career in video production. Kingdom Creative’s showreel of previous client work also helped to inspire our students to think big about what they can do with videos as a medium – both now in their work experience and in their future careers.
With the workshop knowledge and the project brief fresh in their minds, our learners could now start coming up with ideas for what their video could look like. They needed to create a script and storyboard, film their content, and edit their clips together to create short and engaging videos about their chosen topic – as well as meet deadlines for providing a rough-cut edit for feedback, and the final project deadline.
Our students dived head-first into the challenge and even went out to shoot on location to really apply the industry insight they’d gained from the Kingdom Creative team.
Once the final project deadline arrived, Kingdom Creative joined us back on campus for a presentation and feedback session. Our students gathered together to watch the final films and provide feedback to each other on what they thought each video’s strengths were and where there was room for improvement. The feedback from the Kingdom Creative team and each other has helped our learners to think about what they can apply to their future projects, as well as talking points when discussing their work at future interviews!
Alongside providing insight into what it’s like to work in video production, the project also aimed to develop our learners’ employability skills, including:
We’re looking forward to continuing working with Kingdom Creative on future work experience projects and activities!
