North Hertfordshire College’s TV, Film, and VFX students have been working on an employer-set project with not one, but two work experience employers!
The students have been working with local video production company Kingdom Creative on developing a series of short films to create a video package for independent estate agent Neena Odedra. The project has seen our learners think about how videos can be used to tell a story and advertise a product or service to convince someone to explore a brand.
As an estate agent, Neena provides potential property buyers with information about different aspects of moving to Stevenage. The video package our students are working on as part of this work experience project will include five short films that she can use in her advertising to promote this service, that fit into her brand and that she can use to help customers – an exciting challenge for our learners.
This is the first time that North Hertfordshire College’s first-year TV, Film, and VFX students have created videos for a real client under guidance of an external employer. Kingdom Creative have been very supportive in this role, providing our learners with insight into what it’s like to work in the video production and creative industries and delivering practical workshops to share top tips.
The students are even planning on welcoming Neena to our Hitchin Campus to record some speech-to-camera videos in the newly launched Purwell Studios space, to broaden the variety of videos she is able to use in her advertising.
Head of Work Experience, Claire Cooper, told us: “This is an incredibly exciting project for our students. We’ve built strong relationships with Kingdom Creative over the years and we’re so pleased that our students are trusted by the team to work with a real client on this project. I can’t wait to see the finished videos, and I hope this is the start of something really positive for the future.”
As a result of working with both Kingdom Creative and Neena on this project, our learners have refined their collaboration and organisation skills, working across different teams and checking that everyone is clear on the project expectations and timelines. The finished videos will be especially impressive on their portfolios and CVs, too, demonstrating that they have experience of working with external organisations to meet deadlines.
We look forward to seeing the final results of this project!
