We’re incredibly proud of NHC student, Ben, who’s has had his work featured in a fashion magazine!
Ben was scrolling through TikTok when he spotted that Perediza, a fashion magazine established by young creatives, were reaching out to their audience for fresh new talent in any specialism.
Ben took a chance and commented, explaining the project he was working on in his Level 3 Fashion course with us. Ben was thrilled to receive a response from Perediza asking him to email them with more detail about the design he was working on.
Ben’s project was focussed on chosen queer family in New York during the 1980s-1990s ballroom scene. He developed the concept as a tribute to Venus Xtravaganza who was murdered for being a trans woman.
After researching the theme further, Ben watched the documentary entitled ‘Paris is Burning’ in which Venus Xtravaganza discussed her lifelong dream to get married. Ben incorporated this into his tribute by creating a look that represented bridal yet ghostly aspects to capture Venus’ spirit.
Once Ben had sent more images, Perediza replied to express how much they loved the piece and the concept behind it and wanted to see the final look in person to see how they could present it to their audience. They invited Ben to London for an editorial shoot using his work!
The professional shoot was held at a church near Kings Cross, and featured a queer person as the model.
An editorial feature in a celebrated magazine, all before he’s even completed his course with us. We’re SO proud of Ben’s achievement!
