Fleet Source Ltd. have shown their support for the college’s Give a Future campaign by offering a placement opportunity for NHC student Jake Kearney, who began his placement within the company in November 2020. Whilst for some the introduction of another lockdown 2 months into the placement might seem like a barrier to some, Jake describes how he has continued to use this opportunity to develop his skills and knowledge and continued to work virtually, from home, to complete his placement.
Jake is currently studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business Studies and he was delighted to secure his placement at Fleet Source within the first few weeks of starting his programme:
“I have been working at Fleet Source Ltd. in Letchworth since November, and in that short space of time, I have learnt a great deal about not only the transport industry but what it’s like to work in a professional environment with other people.
“Learning different key skills such as punctuality, confidence, professionalism and being sociable have been a few of the many benefits I have gained from working at Fleet Source. I have received valuable experience that can be used universally from just being in a working environment.
Due to the pandemic, I had to start working from home, but Fleet Source were very supportive with this, and since coming back after Christmas, I have been working from my desk. I hope to be back in the office soon!”
Give A Future aims to link up NHC students with local businesses to give young people invaluable work-place experience so they are in the best position to find work once they gain their qualifications.
