North Hertfordshire College’s E3 Sports students have showcased their skills and teamwork through an SEN Rugby Tournament at Saracens StoneX Stadium!
The friendly tournament, organised in a round robin format, saw ten of our learners teaming up to play other teams of fellow students. The emphasis of the event was on non-competitive spirit, with a particular focus on inclusion and the enjoyment of playing tag rugby.
This was a great opportunity for our learners to meet new people and to apply their NHC experience to a bigger event. NHC’s E3 Sports programme is designed to support learners in building their employability and vocational skills through practical sessions and activities, including learning about the broader sports industry. Students on the course have enjoyed previous trips to sporting venues around the region to understand more about the different elements involved in sports, and the experience of playing in the SEN tournament is a brilliant way to bring this learning to life.
The tournament is also a great example of the amazing connections NHC’s Tutors and Course Team Leaders have with employers, as it’s through E3 Sports Course Team Leader Karl Scott’s good working relationship with Saracens that our learners were invited to take part.
Karl commented: “I thought it was a fantastic opportunity for our students to play against other schools and colleges in the stadium’s spectacular surroundings. It was a real privilege for our students to play on the pitch of one of Europe’s most famous and successful Rugby Union teams. The students loved it, and each received a special t-shirt to remember the event. This will hopefully be the start of a regular event that our students can be involved with.”
