Leon, Level 2 Art Bespoke
Heather gave us lots of important information about getting a job in the creative sector and was very motivational.
North Hertfordshire College’s Creative Arts students were joined by Heather Clark Charrington for an inspirational guest speaker session about careers in the creative arts sector as part of Speakers for Schools!
Heather is a marketing and communications specialist with over 20 years of experience in the arts and entertainment industry. She currently works as Director of Audiences for the Southbank Centre, and her career has seen her work across a number of different organisations in the UK and the US. She’s also worked as a consultant for theatre companies and arts organisations around the world – so who could be better to speak to our students about the wealth of opportunities available in the sector?
During her guest speaker session and the following Q&A opportunity, Heather spoke openly about her own experience of working in the creative industries and the challenges she’s faced along the way. Part of Heather’s message to NHC’s students was to stay focused, resilient, and have self-belief as they work towards achieving their goals.
Heather Clark Charrington said of the experience: “It was my absolute pleasure to speak to this amazing group of creative students at North Hertfordshire College. I was impressed by their curiosity and enthusiasm for the arts. Thank you to Briony and Speakers for Schools for the invitation!”
Briony Marston, Head of Creative Industries at North Hertfordshire College, said: “Heather’s breadth of experience in the creative industries shone through and her practical advice for our students was well received. It was a privilege to host Heather at our college.”
Heather’s talk has certainly made a positive impact on our students – check out some of their thoughts in the carousel below:

I enjoyed the passion Heather had for every section of the creative arts; this session has made me feel confident that there are many different opportunities available.
Heather’s dedication to creative arts inspired me to push past any boundaries that I have previously tried to avoid.
The talk was really good for me because it showed me that there’s a space for everyone – no matter your ethnicity or the religion you believe in.
